What gets collected

Comments

Leave a comment and the form takes your name, email, website if you added one, and whatever you wrote. Your IP address and browser details get logged too. That part is for spam filtering.

Contact form

Send a message and I get your name, email, subject and message. I use it to write back. That’s it.

Images

If you ever upload a photo here, strip the location data first. Anyone can pull GPS info out of an image file.

Cookies

Comment and you can tick a box to save your details for next time. Those cookies stick around a year. Logging in as admin sets a few more, but that’s just me.

Analytics

I use analytics to see how many people show up and which posts they actually read. It’s counted in bulk. Nothing points back to you.

Ads and other companies

Google AdSense may run ads here. Google uses cookies, including the DoubleClick DART cookie, to show ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings at https://www.google.com/settings/ads. You can also opt out of third party vendor cookies through the Network Advertising Initiative at https://www.networkadvertising.org/choices.

Other ad partners may drop their own cookies and web beacons here. I can’t see or control those. Their privacy policies are the place to check.

Stuff embedded from elsewhere

Posts sometimes include videos, images or content pulled in from other sites. That embedded content acts like you went and visited that site yourself. Those sites can collect data, set cookies, and watch how you interact with what they’ve embedded.

Affiliate links

Some posts have affiliate links. Buy through one and I might make a small commission. Costs you nothing extra. Those programmes use cookies to track where the click came from.

How long things stick around

Comments stay indefinitely, so follow up replies get recognised instead of sitting in a moderation queue. Contact messages get kept until they’re no longer useful.

What you can ask for

Left a comment here? You can ask for a copy of the data held about you, and you can ask for it to be deleted. Anything I’m legally required to keep is the exception. Email homeandharper@gmail.com to sort it out.

Kids

This site isn’t aimed at anyone under 13 and doesn’t knowingly collect anything from them. If you think a child sent something in, tell me and it goes.
